MSDN Forums

Friday, April 29th, 2005

So Microsoft finally created a forum for MSDN that is moderated by the actual developers of .NET and other higher up programmers and developers inside the company. I must say this is a huge step forward for Microsoft. I recently asked a question and was greeted by Josh Williams who responded promptly and then went and wrote an article about the question I asked. Links to my question and the article are listed below

Just copy and paste them in your browser of choice.

XHTML Valid and Working

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005

Well the site is now XHTML valid and working in both IE and FF properly. I will start making the minor changes on the sub pages to fix whatever bugs they may have. Things are looking good. Might start writing some HCS12 code again soon. Oh wait I thought I just ordered a copy of C# and 2 books on that. Too many interests not enough time. Maybe I will have to make my C# program interact with my HCS12 program. Hmmm…

Site rewrite

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005

I have started rewriting the site in XHTML 1.0 Transitional to modernize it a bit and comply to the newer browser standards. It is mostly done minus a problem with the side nav column not always stretching to the end of the screen. Other than that though it is pretty much done and validated 100% correct when I checked it last night. I guess I need to get a little XHTML button to replace my HTML valid.

Windows XP 64 Bit Edition

Monday, April 25th, 2005

According to a somewhat reliable source of mine Microsoft has just begun shipping Windows XP 64 Bit Edition. They are claiming that around 16,000 drivers are supported already though they say some older components will not get updated. As far as I am concerned if you own a 64 bit system chances are that you have few if any older components in that system so that really should not cause any problems. I wonder when I will be able to order a copy. Microsoft is supposed to be shipping to the larger OEMs first and if you have a copy of the 32 bit XP right now you can get a trade in for the new 64 bit edition. Microsoft also is claiming the pricing will be exactly the same for the 64 bit edition which really is not that big of a suprise but it may mean that if you do a trade in for XP 64 bit it will be free. No word on whether or not the trade in will be free but I am sure other news sources will be covering this very soon.

New layout

Saturday, April 23rd, 2005

Well incase you have yet to notice there is a new layout in progress. Also google did the pagerank update finally last night. My main page is now a 3 my blog is now a 4 but strangest of all things I have ever seen happen with PR the book about PC Assembly language in my downloads section somehow gained a PR of 5. Only one link pointing to it that I know of that is a PR2. Something does not seem to add up. Perhaps google is favoring PDF files now too? It seems they love blogs again. My blog has gone from from a 0-3-2-1-4! This site went 0-3. A lot of friends of mine have benefitted from this update and some have fallen. Ah well all that really matters is how you show up when you press search and the pagerank of your page is only a small indicator of that. Time to play a bit of GT4 before bed.

New layout in development

Thursday, April 21st, 2005

A new cleaner layout is in dvelopment. Should make the site a lot easier on the eyes. It will have sort of an XP feel but my idea of how the site shuold be will remain the same (clean/small/fast). I may look into starting a forum for C#. It seems like I can not find a good one out there. Just need some C# developers to show some interest in moderating it. Would probably be phpbb or possibly custom coded. Large software packages are generally the target of most hackers or script kiddies as they want to be in the spotlight by defacing sites with popular packages. Anyhow I hope to have the layout done in the next week or two.

70 ft wave!

Monday, April 18th, 2005

Apparently the cruise ship I will be sailing on in a few weeks was hit by a 7 story wave and flooded over 60 cabins and injured four people. Supposedly the ship is repaired already. Nuts…

Code Edit Pro Update Brewing

Wednesday, April 13th, 2005

A new version of Code Edit Pro will be released soon. Some of the new features include hot keys to your files associated as command files (Will be Ctrl 0-9), the lights for NUM, CAPS and INS at the bottom of the IDE and whatever minor bug fixes I have found along the way. I would expect to make a release this friday but I will have to see how this week plays out time wise.

Google expanding services

Sunday, April 10th, 2005

http://labs.google.com/ridefinder It appears google is now adding Ride Finder to there mapping system. Google is going nuts with this mapping stuff lately. All they need now is a national wireless broadband access and a GPS reciever that interfaces there maps on any old laptop and they will have the corner on the mapping market. Also one thing that is very very cool I found the other day is GMail Drive. It lets you pretty much map your GMAIL account as a hard drive you can use to access from anywhere. Most of the articles on it I came across claimed that you need windows XP but it worked fine on a Windows 2000 SP4 box and a Windows XP SP2 laptop I have. My only gripe is that directory path/filename length is quite restricted. Perhaps in time they will come up with a better method of storing the file/path name so that you can store long file names. With the new infiniti +1 project from google I guess it is techinically an unlimited amount of space. Last I checked they were just over 2GB of space. It is still unreal. Unfortunately Google does not want to publicly support this yet and may shut it down but it is pretty cool. I wonder if there is a way I could setup all my 50 invites as 1 huge spanned drive. That would put me currently over 100GB available anywhere I can get on the net and would grow at 50x the rate of a single account!

Google Maps Satellite Feature

Friday, April 8th, 2005

If you have yet to look at google there is even more reason to do so now. You can view satellite images of the entire world that can be zoomed into a level of detail where you can see cars driving by the clean up of the world trade center. Very cool. It will even overlay your driving directions on top of the satellite images. Bad ass. My only gripe is that there are a lot of areas in the US that still need more detailed photos for it to be of any use. My office and apartment are both restricted to 4th knotch on the zoom meter which can barely allow you to see the streets which they are on though you can kind of see my pool and tennis courts. I think they have a great start and I am sure the images will only get more detailed from here on out. More reason to say bye to mapquest and AAA maps.
