Toshiba

Thursday, May 12th, 2005

Toshia announces today a new 45GB DVD format. Using 3 layers with a high density 405nm laser they are able to fit 45 GB on a single sided disc. That is like 16 hours of DVD video on one disc or 45GB of storage. Anyone up for a 90GB double-sided triple-layer high-density disc? :)

Wow PSP has been cracked

Friday, May 6th, 2005

Apparently the PSP Disc protection has been cracked already! Obviously since it is a UMD disc there is no way to copy it yet but with the capacity of memory sticks these days it is possible they could be copied to and ran from those.

Is It Better To Be a Jock Or A Nerd…?

Friday, May 6th, 2005

Michael Jordan having retired, with $40 million in endorsements, makes $178,100 a day, working or not. If he sleeps 7 hours a night, he makes $52,000 every night while visions of sugarplums dance in his head. If he goes to see a movie, it will cost him $7.00, but he will make $18,550 while he is there. If he decides to have a 5 minute egg, he will make $618 while boiling it. He makes $7,415/hr more than minimum wage. He will make $3,710 while watching each episode of Friends. If he wanted to save up for a new Acura NSX ($90,000) it would take him a whole 12 hours. If someone were to hand him his salary and endorsement money, they would have to do it at the rate of $2.00 every second. He will probably pay around $200 for a nice round of golf, but will be reimbursed $33,390 for that round. Assuming he puts the federal maximum of 15% of his income into a tax-deferred account (401k), his contributions will hit the federal cap of $9500 at 8:30am on January 1st. If you were given a penny for every 10 dollars he made, you would be living comfortably at $65,000 a year. He will make about $19.60 while watching the 100-meter dash in the Olympics, and about $15,600 during the Boston Marathon. While the common person is spending about $20 for a meal in his trendy Chicago restaurant, he will pull in about $5600. This year, he will make more than twice as much as all U.S. past presidents for all of their terms combined. Amazing? However…If Jordan saves 100% of his income for the next 450 years, he will still have less than Bill Gates has today. Game over. Nerd wins. I must say this document is quite dated. I saw it early on in high school and the gap has probably widened since then. But it is still a fun read from time to time.

Stylus 500

Wednesday, May 4th, 2005

Picked up a Stylus 500 and 512MB xD memory card. It is pretty amazing how much camera media has dropped price wise especially for xD memory (a newer faster standard). Should get it today to try out. I am pretty sure everyone at my office will play with it. It seemed to be a pretty good camera and the place I bought it from had pretty good pricing on both the camera and memory. I would recommend checking out buydig.com if you are in the market for a digital camera or any kind of digital media equipment. I found they via pricegrabber and they had over 11,000 positive reviews and 4.5 stars (closer to 5 stars). Why have I not posted yet? Well I hit a deer, got a hole in a tire and cracked my windsheild in the past 2 weeks in 2 seperate events. Wonderful luck aye?
