AMD files federal antitrust suit against Intel

Tuesday, June 28th, 2005

GrokLaw is now reporting that AMD has filed an antitrust suit against Intel in US district court. They claim that Intel has become even more monopolistic in recent years to keep customers away from purchasing AMD products. Intel has been forcing major computer vendors into exclusive Intel only contracts by giving them huge discounts, cash back up front and marketing assitance that they wouldn’t be able to compete without. Japan has confirmed that Intel has paid off Dell and Toshiba not to do business with AMD. Intel also paid off Sony whose use of AMD microprocessors was nearly 23% during ‘02 and is now 0%. Companies such as NEC, Acer, and Fujitsu recieve enormous discounts and marketing funds to severely cut down or stop purchases of AMD microprocessors. I’d highly recommend reading the GrokLaw articles bullets about a third of the way down the page. Most of this info has been derived from there. Crazy stuff. I’d say AMD has a good case on its hands.

Battlefield 2 Full Version

Monday, June 27th, 2005

So I bought BF2 over the weekend. I picked up the DVD copy as I would prefer to keep track of a single DVD rather than a number of install/play discs. One error I noticed is when isntalling the DVD version it informs you that the activation code is on the back of the CD case. Well guess what. The DVD copy doesn’t have a CD case it is built into the back of the display box. The activation key is actually on the back of the instruction manual. Anyone franticall trying to find their activation code this might be useful. Anways… This game kicks ass! The additions of computer being able to fly helicopters really kicks ass. Playing online is awesome. Join a squad and storm the ground along side your squad members, or fly a transport helicopter full of team members into the enemy base with guns blazing deploying flares to devert the heat seaking missles. There is way to much bad ass stuff to describe here. Bottom line this game kick ass. If you like first person shooters, war games, flight sims, helicopter sims whatever this game has it all. Granted the flight of helicopters and jets isn’t what I would call sim it is still good enough and easy enough to pick up and get going and keep the action rolling.

Archive Added

Saturday, June 25th, 2005

From now on only my 30 most recent posts will show up on the main page. The rest will be added to an archive where you can view all the posts in a specific month. This will help cut down the loading time on lower bandwidth connections and will reduce my overall bandwidth usesage and processing.

Supercomputers got pWnD by IBM and Intel

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

The new Top 500 super computers list came out. Taking 5 of the top 10 spots is IBM including the all important number 1 spot! IBM also took number 2 with SGI coming in a distant third. The #1 rig has 65536 processors that’s $10000 hex or 0-$FFFF addressed. I wonder if there cluster only supports up to 2^16? Ah well with an R Peak of 183,500GFlops who cares? What would I do with 183.5 TFlops? Hmm.. while(1){printf(”hello world!\n”);}?

S12X google rankings

Tuesday, June 21st, 2005

It appears S12X.COM is already showing up very well in the google rankings. Below is a list of some of the terms and ranks I found:

#1 and THE ONLY for 9s12x assembler
#1 for 9s12 assembler
#1 in google for s12x
#1 for 9s12x
#1 for motorola 9s12x
#1 for freescale 9s12x
#4 for s12x assembler
#5 for freescale 9s12
#5 for hcs12x assembler
#8 for freescale hcs12x
#9 for HCS12X

S12X.COM added to the jx90 network

Saturday, June 18th, 2005

I created a basic site for developers of the HCS12(X) to be able to host projects, related media and tools for free. Should anyone want webspace/subdomain simply contact me with the info on that page with some details about your project and I will try my best to help you out. I am also interested in getting an assembler together that will process HCS12, HCS12X and X-Gate code. I was given a very well done Perl assembler recently and have posted that in the Tools section of S12X.com. Anyhow if you are an embedded developer head on over and take a look!

BF2 (Battle Field 2)

Wednesday, June 15th, 2005

BF2 is probably the best FPS I have played in a long time. After I was pretty excited by the single player demo map I went to play online to find out there was an extra map in the demo for network/online play! This game seriously owns almost every FPS to date. The combat is intense and there is more strategy with Squads and Commanders now (though the strategy doesn’t interfere much with actual gameplay). It seems like this game will be far superior to its predecessor BF1942. I was a big fan of 1942 especially when the Desert Combat mod was applied. I only have one gripe about BF2 at this point. They need to change or at least offer a method to control the helicopters the way you were able to fly them in BF1942:Desert Combat. That was seriously the most realistic simulation I have seen. The control scheme for BF2 helicopters is completely horrid. I guess spending all that time learning how to fly the choppers like a champ in Desert Combat (which required lots of practice but had a big pay off!) is wasted on this game. Please EA - as it is probably way too late in the game to change the initial production release (which I am planning on buying and enjoying immensly) allow for more in depth control of the choppers!

FC4 Is out!

Tuesday, June 14th, 2005

Fedora Core 4 is out! The major force in the GNU/Linux platform has turned 4! With x86, x86-64 and Power PC support this should be a large update for the masses. I’d recommend jumping on a torrent and seeding when you are done for a while as all the FTP servers are bogged to a measely 30KB/s or so.

NC100 Drivers

Friday, June 10th, 2005

Here are NC100
ethernet drivers. My dad upgraded his computer with the Auto Updates and it disabled his Network Anywhere (Linksys) NC100 Ethernet adapter with it’s supposively better drivers. For him and anyone else out there here are a copy of the drivers I was able to retrieve elsewhere as the Network Everywhere FTP server was broken when I tried to get them.

Cold Fusion at Room Temperatures - For real this time!

Friday, June 10th, 2005

It is now being claimed that Cold Fusion is possible at room temperature in a device the size of a bread box. Back in ‘89 there was a claim of fusion taking place inside a bottle but it was never verified and eventually retracted. This method is being reproduced successfully around the world now and seems to be a better method then any current method of creating Cold Fusion. The device does not yet generate as much power as it requires to operate (and it may not ever) but it looks like a pretty interesting device none the less.
