AMD files federal antitrust suit against Intel

GrokLaw is now reporting that AMD has filed an antitrust suit against Intel in US district court. They claim that Intel has become even more monopolistic in recent years to keep customers away from purchasing AMD products. Intel has been forcing major computer vendors into exclusive Intel only contracts by giving them huge discounts, cash back up front and marketing assitance that they wouldn’t be able to compete without. Japan has confirmed that Intel has paid off Dell and Toshiba not to do business with AMD. Intel also paid off Sony whose use of AMD microprocessors was nearly 23% during ‘02 and is now 0%. Companies such as NEC, Acer, and Fujitsu recieve enormous discounts and marketing funds to severely cut down or stop purchases of AMD microprocessors. I’d highly recommend reading the GrokLaw articles bullets about a third of the way down the page. Most of this info has been derived from there. Crazy stuff. I’d say AMD has a good case on its hands.
